Abstract

For the entrance to public universities since 2012, verbal, abstract and mathematical reasoning tests were applied that gave the possibility of obtaining a quota to the different careers according to the score achieved by the students. The objective of this research work is to evaluate the impact of the Ser Bachiller test on the level of admission of high school applicants to Higher Education through the application of surveys and academic records, by qualification and type of career in the Camilo Gallegos Educational Unit. It should be mentioned that this test is included as a graduation qualification since it evaluates the students' performance regarding five aspects that are abstract proficiency, mathematical proficiency, linguistic mastery, scientific mastery and social mastery. The type of applied research was mixed, using a qualitative and quantitative approach through surveys and interviews, in addition to evaluating the qualifications obtained in the Ser Bachiller 2017 test. The target population considered were students and teachers of the third year of high school of the Camilo Gallegos Educational Unit of the Ventanas Canton during the 2016-2017 period, closing the study with a proposal focused on strengthening students' knowledge and their preparation thus promoting access to Higher Education.
