Teatro/Biblioteca Municipal "Los Caras" Bahía de Caráquez.

Abstract

The reality that currently lives the city of Bahía de Caráquez is the result of the sum of both natural disasters, migratory processes and state works that left it as a city of passage. Due to all the tourist and cultural potential, the creation of a Municipal Theater/ Library is implemented, allowing to host activities for and towards the community.Located in a middle ground in the historical center of the city and adjacent to the municipal building. It generates a volume in height marking a transition from the public to the private all along and all the high. This intention is supported by the change from perme-able to airtight that the materials used provide the whole and in turn allow ventilation and natural lighting. The 5-storey building houses different environments for the user such as: cafeteria, workshop / training classrooms, library, theater, administrative area and logistics. Taking advantage of the height to generate terraces-viewpoints and gaining visuals that highlight the natural beauty of the city. Located in a highly seismic zone the selection of materials is of utmost importance, so steel and structural concrete are the basis of the project. It looks for flexible elements that work according to natural disasters and at the same time they are as light as possible for the safety of the user.
