Evaluación de la autoestima de los pacientes tratados con prótesis total y parcial removible en la clínica odontológica de la UCSG en el periodo B- 2025.

Abstract

Abstract Introduction: Facial appearance and smile influence self-perception and psychological well-being. Edentulism affects self-esteem, defined as the personal evaluation constructed through experiences and social acceptance. In dentistry, prosthetic rehabilitation not only restores function and aesthetics but also improves psychological dimensions. Previous studies report high self-perception after aesthetic treatments. General objective: To evaluate the self-esteem of patients treated with complete and partial removable dentures at the UCSG Dental Clinic during the period B-2025. Materials and methods: This was an analytical, descriptive-observational, non-experimental, quantitative, and cross-sectional study, approved by UCSG. Sociodemographic data, socioeconomic level, type of edentulism, self-esteem, and social confidence were analyzed using a Likert scale (1–2 low, 3–4 medium, 5–6 high), based on Ghorbani et al. (2025). The study population consisted of 66 patients; A sample of 57 patients was used with a 95% confidence level and a 5% margin of error. Adults rehabilitated with removable prostheses were included. Data were collected via a Google Forms survey and analyzed using Excel and SPSS with frequencies and chi-square tests. Results: 66 patients participated; 68.2% were women and 51.5% were ≥50 years old. Secondary education (50%) and low socioeconomic status (57.6%) predominated. Partial edentulism was present in 87.9%. Self-esteem was high in 68.2% and confidence in 54.5%. There was no significant association between type of edentulism and self-esteem (χ²=0.005; p=0.94) or confidence (χ²=2.29; p=0.32). Conclusions: Older adults with low socioeconomic status and partial edentulism predominated. Prosthetic rehabilitation had a positive impact on self-esteem and confidence, with no statistically significant association with the type of edentulism.
