Evaluación del impacto costo – beneficio del escáner intraoral en la gestión odontológica y la experiencia del paciente.

Abstract

Introduction: Digital dentistry has transformed clinical procedures through the incorporation of technologies such as the intraoral scanner, which allows for obtaining precise, fast, and comfortable digital impressions, overcoming the limitations of conventional materials. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the cost-benefit impact of the intraoral scanner on dental management and patient experience at the UCSG Dental Clinic. Materials and methods: A quantitative, cross-sectional, descriptive, and non-experimental study was conducted with 70 dental students and their respective patients, selected using non-probability convenience sampling. Data collection was carried out using a structured survey in Google Forms, and the analysis included frequencies and percentages. Results: The results showed that the main perceived costs were staff training (58.57%) and software maintenance and updates (55.71%). However, 81.43% highlighted an improvement in productivity, 72.86% a reduction in time per patient, and 71.43% a decrease in material consumption. Regarding patient experience, 85.71% valued the speed and cleanliness of the digital procedure, and 80% reported greater satisfaction. Furthermore, 85.71% noted an improvement in professional image and competitiveness. Conclusion: It is concluded that, despite the initial costs, the intraoral scanner is viable and beneficial in the university setting, optimizing clinical efficiency, patient experience, and profitability in the medium term.
