Valoración de la lactancia materna en parturientas ingresadas en un hospital de Guayaquil, año 2024.

Abstract

Breastfeeding assessment in parturients allows for the detection of potential difficulties that may arise during breastfeeding. Objective: To determine the assessment of breastfeeding in parturients. Methodology: Descriptive, quantitative, prospective, and cross-sectional study. Population: 105 parturients. Technique: Survey. Instrument: Questionnaire with questions from the LATCH Scale. Results: The parturients were aged between 14 and 19 years (40.0%); their civil union status was free (54.2%). They were of mixed ethnicity (82.9%). Their educational level was secondary (62.9%), and they came from an urban area (78.1%). They were primiparous (47.6%), with a cesarean section (52.4%). The characteristics of the children were: gestational age between 37 and 41 weeks (68.6%); with a weight between 2500 - 4000 grams (73.3%). According to the LATCH scale assessment, the way the baby latches on to the breast shows that after repeated attempts to latch on, the baby keeps the nipple in the mouth and manages to suck (45.7%). The amount of audible swallowing is none (66.7%). The shape of the nipple is observed to be flat (43.8%). When assessing comfort, they have full breasts with injured or medium damage nipples (42.9%). With a level of help to maintain the breast position with the baby, minimize the help (50.5%). Conclusion: According to the breastfeeding assessment parameters, they have an overall LATCH score between 4 to 8 points as moderate difficulty.
