Cumplimiento de higiene de manos por el personal de salud en el área de unidad de quirófano de un hospital de la ciudad de Guayaquil, periodo 2024.

Abstract

Hand hygiene is one of the most effective preventive measures to reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). OBJECTIVE: To determine whether health personnel comply with hand hygiene in the surgical area in a hospital in the city of Guayaquil in 2024. METHODOLOGY: Observational-descriptive, quantitative, prospective, cross-sectional. POPULATION: 49 Healthcare professionals from a Hospital in Guayaquil. TECHNIQUE: Direct observation. TOOL: Surveys and surgical hand-washing checklist. RESULTS: 35.40% are between 31 and 35 years old, 77.10% are women, 60.40% have a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, 61.70% work in the morning, 37.50% have more than 10 years of experience, 58.3% perform surgical hand washing, 43.80% wash their hands 10 times a day, 36 participants perform this practice in the OR area, 95.92% do it before invasive procedures, 87.76% perform the correct technique in detail. CONCLUSION: Age, professional training and experience are essential elements in the compliance of surgical hand hygiene.
