Cuidado bucal en niños con trastorno del espectro autista : conocimiento en madres

Abstract

Introduction: Autism spectrum disorder is a condition that alters neurodevelopment, affecting communication and behavior. The oral health of children with ASD plays a very important role since it intervene in biological activities such as chewing, swallowing and phonation. Objective: To identify the level of knowledge about oral care known to mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical research was carried out. A cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical research was carried out through a survey of mothers of children with autism in a range of 5 to 10 years of age, male and female, who attend the ISAAC Psychoeducational Center in the 2024-2025 school year. Results: the level of knowledge of the mothers was regular in 47%, the prevention measure that they know the most to avoid cavities is to reduce the consumption of sweets with 51% and the most frequent cause for those who visit the dentist is pain with 43%. Conclusion: The results of the following study allowed us to know that the mothers of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders at the Isaac Center have a regular level of knowledge in preventive measures regarding oral Health.
