Abstract

The main objective of this thesis is to create, through the use of geographic information systems (GIS), a database for buildings in a determined area of study. The information gathered is a product of a compilation of “in detail” visual inspections performed for buildings and structures within a defined area of study, which will enable us to identify different structural typologies, and understand the predominant type of buildings for certain sectors of the city of Guayaquil. Hence, allowing us to understand and evaluate their behaviour in the possible occurrence of a seismic event. Through the use of fragility curves, previously proposed by other authors, a relationship is established between the structures and their short-long-term behaviour against seismic events, and in this way guarantees the safety and durability of the structures.
