Abstract

At present, the conception of the family as the basic cell of society is maintained, even though it has modified its structure throughout history, precisely as a way of adapting to changes, from this aspect, it reflects its environment both in the macro as a country, as the micro that it could be from its geographical circumscription or the same neighborhood. Despite this, its functions have not changed over time, some of them being: providing economic security to its members and preparing them for their economic independence. Therefore, it is necessary to identify if the families of the city of Guayaquil have the knowledge and tools to fulfill such responsibilities. To do this, it is proposed to analyze the determining factors of the role of the family structure that affects the financial management of households in the city of Guayaquil, through the application of: a structured interview with financial experts, a survey directed to one member per family, and a focus group to delve into the analysis, which will generate inputs to develop a methodological proposal that makes a significant contribution to the management of the family budget.
