Prevalencia de estomatitis subprotésica en pacientes portadores de prótesis parcial y total UCSG semestre A-2019.

Abstract

Introduction: Subprosthetic stomatitis is an inflammation of the generalized oral mucosa in poorly adapted or new patients with oral prostheses; whose clinical characteristics show mucosal lesions such as redness, swelling and mucosal pain on direct contact with the oral prosthesis. Objective: The purpose of the study is to establish the prevalence of subprosthetic stomatitis in patients with total and partial prosthesis at the Santiago de Guayaquil Catholic University of Semester A-2019. Materials and Methods: A descriptive, analytical cross-sectional study was carried out, with an universal sample of patients that utilized total prosthesis or partial removable prosthesis. The severity was analyzed according to the newton index. The type of prosthesis, the habit of use and the harmful habits of the patients was evaluated through a questionnaire. The results were tabulated and recorded by statistical data. Results: 73 patients were obtained (39-80 years). The prevalence of stomatitis was 53%, in relation to the 47% of stomatitis absence. The severity type I was observed at 44%, type II was at 50% and type III demonstrated to be at 6%. The prevalence was greater in those whose use of habits was continuous wich consisted of 56%, and the prevalence was less frequent for those whose use was discontinuous witch represented 44%. The type of material used: acrylic 78 % and acrylic with metal (22%). The presence or absence of harmful habits, presence of hot ingested food at 100% and absence of smoking habits at 58% Conclusion: The Predominant form of stomatitis was a severity of grade II, due to its continuous use and greater presence of acrylic prostheses and harmful habits such as food intake.
