Implementación del sistema de jurados como método para incrementar la confianza en la justicia ecuatoriana.

Abstract

The lack of public trust towards public institutions, particularly those belonging to the criminal justice system, is damaging to the wellbeing of a society. When this happens it slows down the judicial, legal, economic, and financial systems. Considering that recent studies about the trust the citizenry feels toward Ecuadorian justice system have rendered rather poor results, it has become necessary to adopt measures that correct said situation. The objective of this research paper is to propose the implementation of a jury system as a solution to said issue. On the grounds that it has been proved numerous times that the trial by jury is an efficient method of increasing public trust towards the judiciary. Such measures are proposed based on sociological evidence on the effects of trial by jury in several countries and factual evidence on the suitability of the jury system to increase public trust towards the judiciary.
