Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To determine the level of satisfaction and its relationship with perioperative discomfort in patients undergoing oral surgery procedures at the Dental Clinic of the Catholic University of Santiago de Guayaquil during the B-2025 academic period. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A quantitative, cross- sectional, and observational descriptive study was conducted on 183 adult patients undergoing tooth extractions. Satisfaction was assessed using a five-item Likert-type questionnaire, while perioperative discomfort was assessed using the QCirDental/SPQ-DOS questionnaire. Variables such as age, sex, prior experience, and perception of surgical time were also recorded. RESULTS: Overall satisfaction had a mean of 4,54 ± 0,85, indicating a high level of satisfaction. The highest-rated items were treatment outcome (4,67), comfort (4,38), prior explanation (4,29), and pain control (4,27). Perioperative discomfort was low (mean 1,26 DE 1.57), with nervousness and anesthesia pain being the main factors. Patients who perceived the procedure time as prolonged reported lower satisfaction and higher discomfort (p < 0,001). A significant negative correlation was observed between satisfaction and discomfort (rho = −0.287; p < 0,001). There were no significant differences according to sex or age (p > 0,05).
