Comparación de la sensibilidad postoperatoria en restauraciones directas con el uso de diferentes lámparas de fotocurado.

Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare postoperative sensitivity in direct restorations performed with different light-curing lights in patients treated at the Dental Clinic of the Catholic University of Santiago de Guayaquil during cycle A - 2025. Materials and methods: Quantitative approach, clinical and cross-sectional type, quasi-experimental design. The total sample was 60 participants, divided into two groups of 30 patients each, according to the type of light-curing light used. Each group had a total of 15 men and 15 women: Group A) 3M brand light-curing light and Group B) generic LED Rainbow brand light-curing light. Results: It can be observed that the majority of patients corresponding to Group A (3M) did not report pain (53.3%), while 26.7% reported mild pain. After 7 days, the level of postoperative sensitivity was evaluated again. It was found that, within Group A, 86.7% did not report any type of pain. A statistically significant association was found between cavity depth and pain intensity (Kruskal-Wallis; p 0.008; p 0.005). It was observed that patients who reported intense pain had the highest mean age (38.2 years; SD 3.11). At the 7-day evaluation, the average ages reflected certain differences between the different levels of pain recorded (p 0.155). Conclusion: In conclusion, a statistically significant association was evident between the type of lamp and the intensity of the recorded pain, highlighting the need to consider this factor in clinical practice.
