Abstract

Introduction: Periodontitis is a multifactorial disease characterized by the destruction of the tooth's supporting structures, which are influenced by modifying and non-modifying factors. Oral health and its impact on quality of life can be affected by pathologies that compromise aesthetics. Objective: To compare the impact of periodontal status on the quality of life of patients with periodontitis in stages I, II, III, and IV, and grades A, B, and C, who were treated at the UCSG Dentistry Clinic. Materials and methods: A quantitative, cross-sectional, observational-descriptive and analytical study was conducted using a deductive method, with a sample of 51 individuals diagnosed with periodontitis who attended the UCSG dental clinic. The OHIP-14 PD (Oral Health Impact Profile) was used to measure quality of life, and the AMAI (Mexican Association of Market Research Agencies) was used to measure socioeconomic status. Results: Periodontal disease has a mild, moderate, and severe impact on quality of life; a significant difference was obtained in females, with a P-value of 0.004, where stage IV grade C had a moderate impact (36.4%) and a severe impact (36.4%).
