Abstract

This research aims to address the impact of a capacitist society on the enjoyment of sexuality by people with disabilities. Using theoretical foundations from psychoanalytic theory and gender studies, it has been observed that prejudiced and stigmatized discourses about people with disabilities and their sexual lives still exist. The goal of this study is to analyze how a capacitist society influences the enjoyment of sexuality by people with disabilities, in order to shed light on the stigmas surrounding disabilities and sexuality. To achieve this, a qualitative methodology was applied under the interpretive paradigm, using a state-of-the-art method along with bibliographic review techniques and semi-structured interviews. As a result, discursive narratives were obtained, demonstrating how capacitism influences the perception of people with disabilities and their environment regarding how they should live their sexuality, and even how they perceive themselves.
