Prevalencia de la hipoacusia en pacientes con hipotiroidismo en el servicio de Otorrinolaringología en el Hospital IESS Durán durante el periodo 2020 – 2022.

Abstract

Hearing loss is not a frequent symptom in hypothyroidism, but it occurs in rare cases, due to a lack of thyroid hormones in the body. Hearing loss in hypothyroidism is usually mild and may improve with appropriate hypothyroidism treatment.Objective: To determine the prevalence of hearing loss in patients with hypothyroidism treated in the Otorhinolaryngology service of the IESS Durán Hospital during the period 2020 - 2022. Materials and Methods: Descriptive, analytical, retrospective study of nonexperimental design. Results: From a sampleof 145 patients with hypothyroidism associated with hearing loss, there were 75 female patients (52%), in addition to the fact that the largest age group affected is 43 to 60 years (61 patients), with an evident association with other diseases, hypertension (83 patients) and diabetes mellitus (40 patients); Regarding the types of hearing loss, the conductive one was evident in 40 patients, the neurosensory in 46 patients and finally the mixed type in 59 patients. Conclusions: There is a predisposition of the female gender has a predisposition for the manifestation of hypothyroidism with hearing loss. The relationship with the age groups between 43 and 60 years is evident. There is a relationship with other comorbidities, primarily with arterial hypertension and type 2 diabetes mellitus. In the types of hearing loss, the main one is the mixed type, which manifested itself in 59 patients. Hearing loss subsequent to hypothyroidism manifests mostly 1 to 4 years after diagnosis.
