Abstract

The present thesis project proposes the creation of an illustrated guide about the folkloric celebrations that are considered intangible cultural heritage of Ecuador based on character designs. Its purpose is to spread these patrimonial festivities by analyzing how they are exposed to the public and by showing through a series of ten illustrations all the characteristics, clothes, and accessories that make them up. For the development of the project, a documentary research is accomplished to collect information on folklore, intangible cultural heritage, heritage cultural celebrations, and digital illustration. Similarly, a descriptive research with a qualitative approach is carried out with professionals and experts on graphic design, history and culture, in order to know the elements that make a folkloric celebration so important and subsequently define design criteria. The information collected allows creating illustration proposals of each celebration that are evaluated and modified to select the most favorable option, and then design the illustrated guide that also shows the making of the character.
