Fortalecimiento de la organización de los trabajadores del agro pertenecientes a la Comuna Campesina Unión y Progreso de Isla San Cristóbal-Galápagos.

Abstract

The Peasant Communes, in our insular region, are not habitual modes of organization. Proof of this is that, at the provincial level, there is only one guild that is located 10 km from Puerto Baquerizo, in the Progreso Parish of San Cristobel Island. This organization brings together farmers who are engaged in agricultural work. Economic, material and immaterial resources are scarce because of the little support they receive from public institutions and social organizations. The lack of implementation of plans and projects in the short, medium and long term is one of the reasons why members present situations of poverty and scarcity and low level of quality of life. Added to this, the agricultural activity suffers from the attack of pests and diseases in crops with the impotence of control of those who dedicate themselves to this activity because of the scarce human and professional resource in the application and use of products and organic inputs. The present work proposes the strengthening of the organization of the agricultural workers belonging to the Commune Campesina Union y Progreso of San Cristóbal-Galápagos Island starting from the strengths of the Commune.
