Literacy Instruction and Self-efficacy in an English as a Foreign Language Learner with Asperger Condition in the Third Grade of a Bilingual School.

Título : Literacy Instruction and Self-efficacy in an English as a Foreign Language Learner with Asperger Condition in the Third Grade of a Bilingual School.
Autor : Cabrera Quiñonez, Erika Vanessa
Resumen : This study aimed to determine that an EFL classroom with a student with Asperger's
condition should be fostered in language proficiency in a way that is both supportive
and responsive to their unique learning needs. This involves providing tailored
instruction that accommodates any challenges the student may face with language
processing, social interaction, or sensory sensitivities. The focus should be on
enhancing the student's abilities in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, while
also building their confidence and reducing anxiety in the learning environment. The
data was collected through the use of unstructured observations applied in the
reading, vocabulary, and writing, working directly with the student in the language
arts classes. The findings showed that the student scored low in each evaluated skill,
considering that each test significantly affected his self-efficacy, causing his behavior
to be difficult to control when the teacher did not provide techniques and strategies
to improve their academic performance, and the actual methodology applied mixed
methods and a descriptive design involves integrating both quantitative and
qualitative approaches to provide a comprehensive understanding of the research
problem. Thus, the mentioned techniques and strategies are to be applied to the
student in the classroom to solve the problems found in this research project.

Contextualized Core English Glossary for nine-to-ten-year-old Ecuadorian Children.

Título : Contextualized Core English Glossary for nine-to-ten-year-old Ecuadorian Children.
Autor : Baquerizo Inca, Alexis Karina
Descripción : This work is based on the results of Terminological and Documentary research about the cultural, religious and traditional aspects of the Ecuadorian people and territory. The objective of the present study is to provide language planners a set of terms that will enable the development of a curricular component through research of the different environments where the set population interacts. To achieve the latter, it was necessary to create a Contextualized Core English Glossary for nine-to-ten-year-old Ecuadorian Children that encompasses different aspects from the Ecuadorian culture, from roots to tradition, by using the EdiLIM educational software as a tool in the learning process of EFL for five graders.

Cultural interchangeability in humor translation-adaption : a case study of the sitcom modern family.

Título : Cultural interchangeability in humor translation-adaption : a case study of the sitcom modern family.
Autor : Estupiñán Criollo, Nadya Lorena; Suquilanda Garrido, Yuly Kiara
Descripción : This research work reports on the extralinguistic (pragmatic-cultural) analysis
of a popular American sitcom. Sitcoms contain humor, which is transferred to
TL audiences. Cultural adaptation aids in the development of the message
intended in the SL. Berger's classification of humor, i.e., the four groups
identified, are at work in various contexts. The scope of humor is culturebound. Jokes can be a reflection of the social and cultural context in which
they are constructed. Culture is represented by the customary views, social
forms, and traits based on race, religion, or social groups within the
distinctive features of daily life shared by people in a particular place or time.
Culture is illustrated in the TV sitcom Modern Family, which is the subject of
study because it depicts the daily interaction of three families from various
backgrounds, comprising various beliefs, races, and social forms. The
purpose of this study is to provide a thorough analysis of the many types of
humor that are widely employed in sitcoms, which will, in turn, aid depiction
of the translation process (by means of subtitling) and measure effectiveness
in the rendering of jokes.
