Título : Exploration of cognitive special needs at the Faculty of Administration of the University of Guayaquil for the design of a viable EFL teacher training proposal.
Autor : Aguilar Echeverría, Elena Patricia
Resumen : To research the aspects of special needs in the Faculty of Administration at the
University of Guayaquil to identify possible weak elements. For this purpose, this

improving teaching practices. The participants consisted of 42 professors from
the English department of the Science Administration Faculty at the University of
Guayaquil. There were both male and female participants based in Guayaquil in
Ecuador during the academic year 2018-2019. Fourth main instruments were

Autor : Vasco Muñoz, Jessica Isabel
Descripción : This study reports on the use of graded readers as a vehicle to motivate
students to read more in English. A month period was devoted for the
implementation of this project. The participants of this study were twenty-seven
students who belonged to the group 4202 which corresponds to an elementary
level at Universidad Politecnica Salesiana in Guayaquil-Ecuador. The
participants were asked to choose graded readers at the library of the
university. Data obtained through speaking and writing diagnostic tests, a
questionnaire about motivation and reading habits, quizzes, and interviews
showed that using graded readers resulted in students’ improvement in
vocabulary and writing skills. A mixed-methods approach was applied in order
to integrate quantitative and qualitative data. The focus was based on action
research for the betterment of reading practices. Likewise, this study examines
how an appropriate selection of books can affect students’ perceptions about
the work with graded readers

Título : Students’ attitude towards EFL acquisition in the learning climate of Amarilis Fuentes Alcivar Public High School.
Autor : Higuera Salvatierra, Celeste Josefina
Descripción : EFL learning is a challenge for students in public high schools in Ecuador.
One of the most negative aspects teachers face is learners’ attitudes towards
English Foreign Language learning. This study was conducted (1) to
characterize the students’ attitude towards EFL learning, (2) to describe the
learning environment of the EFL classroom, (3) to determine how the
students’ attitude is influenced by this learning environment at Amarilis Fuentes
Alcívar high school in Guayaquil. This thesis analyses the result of a survey on
118 undergraduate EFL students, a survey to 9 English teachers; and a class
observation. The survey to students focused on the learners’ attitude towards
English learning and causes that might influence on it. The survey to teachers
focused on EFL classes with students of different levels of competence to
collect demographic information ; and finally, the class observation focused on
corroborating information to understand the aspects that affect English
learning. For data collection, a 19 item questionnaire was administered to
students, a 7 questions survey was administrated to teachers and a class
observation with 9 aspects of learning. Result of the quantitative analysis
shows that students at the beginning of the course have had very high
expectation towards English language learning. However, the data also
revealed that they have had negative feelings regarding classroom instructions
and motivation in their learning experience. It also showed that students feel
unsatisfied with the curriculum and the teaching methodology teachers have
applied. Several suggestions have been made regarding to motivation,
curriculum, and teaching material.

Título : Using technology-mediated practice for the enhancement of A1 level english grammar accuracy in secondary school students.
Autor : Martillo Ochoa, Róssula Amarilis
Descripción : This study began with an examination of the English learning needs of eighth grade learners at the 10 de Agosto private school. Aspects such as motivation in students using technology and ICT, the role of technology in education, and the advantages of using technology for foreign language learning were analyzed. This study also presents a testing stage of the materials designed to fulfill the needs of the students who participated in this study. Based on the data collected, this study provides information about students’ diagnostic evaluation, surveys to teachers, a CD, and a grammar booklet. During the development of the project, the design, implementation and testing of an interactive CD were performed. The CD was designed as a means to provide support and practice through audiovisual and integrated learning. Moreover, to accompany the CD, a corresponding booklet was designed for students to practice grammar, so their English learning practices could improve. The main goal was to reinforce proper construction of sentences among 8th graders at the levels A1.1 and 1.2, which is beyond what the Ministry of Education English Curriculum requires (Ministerio de Educación, 2016a).
